26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Notes for this Weekend

Welcome

Welcome to our Eucharistic Celebration on this Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Too late! While he was alive, the rich man in today’s Gospel ignored the beggar Lazarus at his gate. Now he suffers in torment. In death a great chasm separates him from paradise, an expanse he can never cross. It is too late for this man who spent his life taking care of himself and ignoring those in need. But it is not too late for us. No matter our age, we can change our attitudes and behavior. As the seasons change around us, let us consider the possibility of change within us.

The intentions of this Mass are for all those in our special intention basket and...

Please stand for our procession.

Universal Prayer

A. For the Church, that we may be instruments of God’s love and mercy, sharing what we have with all those in need, hastening the day when none of God’s children will live in poverty, let us pray to the Lord.

B. For leaders of nations, that they may be moved by the plight of those who live on the margins of society and work for economic and social justice for all, let us pray to the Lord.

C. For our Jewish sisters and brothers as they begin a new year, that this new year may bring blessings and peace, let us pray to the Lord.

D. For migrants and refugees, who like Lazarus are in desperate need of food, health, safety, and support: may they—unlike Lazarus—receive compassion and assistance from people and nations with the means to help, let us pray to the Lord.

E. For priests here at home and around the world, that they may be blessed in their service to God’s people, let us pray to the Lord.

F. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.
