Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

This week we hear Jesus say, “He that believes in me, has eternal life” (John 6:47). These straightforward words, uttered by human lips, sound — how to put this? — insane. Who could possibly say such a thing? Jesus says things that are so high, so demanding, so beyond our capacity to fathom, we hardly know what to do with them and (if you’re like me), they usually go in one ear and out the other. So, let us ask: how can believing in him lead to eternal life?

To believe in something means not just to acknowledge its existence, but also to orient yourself entirely to it. If a football player believes in his team, it means he puts his life totally at the service of that goal. If a student believes in her dream to become a doctor, she gives everything she has to her studies and preparation for her MCAT test. Belief means to move boldly toward something we love, and trust is possible to attain.

What is the highest possible good at which we can aim? It is God himself, the gift of eternal life without end. Jesus has made this “good” possible in and through his human nature. To believe in him means to have him as our ultimate goal. This week let’s believe the truth of these words and make practical decisions to orient ourselves toward what we see available in him: eternal life. — Father John Muir ©LPi

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Notes for this Weekend

Welcome

Welcome to our Eucharistic Celebration on this Second Sunday in Ordinary Time .

We call this period of the liturgical year “Ordinary Time,” but this time after Christmas is not ordinary at all, for it is now that we learn about the first days of Jesus’ public life. In today’s Gospel, John testifies that the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus when John baptized him, meaning that the Holy Spirit joined in Christ’s entire mission. The Holy Spirit descended upon us in our own baptism as well. May we be conscious of that divine presence as we join in Christ’s mission during our own ordinary time.

The intentions of this Mass are for all those in our special intention basket and...

Please stand for our procession.

Universal Prayer

A. For the Church, that by our prophetic words and our conscientious works in service of the gospel, we may give witness to the continuing presence of the Holy Spirit in the world, let us pray to the Lord.

B. For our Church’s missionaries, that like Isaiah, Paul, and John the Baptist, they may testify to the light so that God’s word may be proclaimed to the ends of the earth, let us pray to the Lord.

C. That we may honor the memory of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. by courageously speaking out against injustice and working to bring about justice everywhere, let us pray to the Lord.

D. For all Christians as we approach the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, that we may put into shared practice our love of God and love of neighbor, so that we may find common ground through living out the greatest commandment, let us pray to the Lord.

Fr. Arturo & Fr. Roberto Mass

E. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.

Fr. Kamil’s Mass

E. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, and for (read all intentions from 1st page), let us pray to the Lord.

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Notes for this Weekend

Welcome

Welcome to our Eucharistic Celebration on this Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

We gather together today to honor our Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and her immaculate conception. From her very conception she was filled with God’s grace. She was never stained by original sin. She was never separated from God’s love, not even as she was formed in her mother’s womb. Especially during this season, as we prepare to welcome Jesus into the world, may her acceptance of God’s grace be a model for us in our mission to bear Christ to others.

The intentions of this Mass are for all those in our special intention basket and...

Please stand for our procession.

B. For leaders of government, that the decisions they make may advance the common good, fill the hungry with good things, and lift up the lowly, let us pray to the Lord.

C. For women who are expecting children, that they may be blessed by the God who chose us all before the foundation of the world, let us pray to the Lord.

D. That those who face difficult and momentous decisions may find wisdom and comfort in Mary’s example, let us pray to the Lord.

The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

Notes for this Weekend

Welcome

Welcome to our Eucharistic Celebration on this Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Our readings today are truly frightening, for they look ahead to the end of the world and the second coming of our Lord. Everything that the human race has achieved will come crashing down. Natural disasters and violent conflicts will erupt. The faithful will be persecuted, but will be vindicated in the end. While evildoers will be punished in the last days, the faithful will not be harmed. May this give us confidence as we look forward to an uncertain future.

The intentions of this Mass are for all those in our special intention basket and...

Please stand for our procession.

Universal Prayer

A. For the Church, that we may be faithful to our mission to bring Christ to others as a sign of justice in times of persecution and hope in times of despair, let us pray to the Lord.

B. For all those who are incarcerated, both guilty and innocent, especially those on death row, that they may find mercy and peace during their time in prison, let us pray to the Lord.

C. That as winter approaches, those who are homeless or who are unable to afford warm clothes or shelter may be protected from the debilitating cold, let us pray to the Lord.

D. For those who are unable to join in the Eucharist in person, that they may realize their connection to all the faithful who come together to give thanks to God, let us pray to the Lord.

E. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.

Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Notes for this Weekend

Welcome

Welcome to our Eucharistic Celebration on this Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time.

As days grow shorter, leaves fall from trees, and the last of the year’s crops are harvested, the Church calls to mind those who have died and of Jesus’ promise of eternal life. Earlier this week we honored the saints on All Saints Day and remembered our beloved dead on All Souls Day. Today we hear Jesus affirm the resurrection of the dead when faced with a group of religious authorities who refuse to accept it. May our faith in Jesus, who is the resurrection and the life, give us hope during these dark days.

The intentions of this Mass are for all those in our special intention basket and...

Please stand for our procession.

Universal Prayer

A. For the Church, that our faith in the Resurrection may console those facing death, give hope to the baptized, and provide powerful witness to the world, let us pray to the Lord.

B. That those elected or reelected to public office this week may serve the people of our country with integrity and may work to make the world a better place through their service, let us pray to the Lord.

C. For an increase in vocations to the ordained and religious life, that more men and women may realize the call from the Holy Spirit to dedicate their lives to serve the people of God, let us pray to the Lord.

D. That our faith community may provide consolation and support to all those who mourn the loss of one of their loved ones, giving witness to Jesus’ promise that the dead will rise, let us pray to the Lord.

Fr. Arturo & Fr. Roberto Mass

E. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.

The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed

Notes for this Weekend

Welcome

Welcome to our Eucharistic Celebration on this Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed.

We come together today to remember all who have died, particularly our deceased loved ones whom we mourn, whose memory we honor, and whose lives we value. We pray for them, trusting in God’s mercy and in Jesus’ promise that he is the resurrection and the life. Taking confidence in our faith that at the time of death our lives change but do not end, we regard those who have passed away as alive in the Lord, able to share in his ultimate victory over death.

The intentions of this Mass are for all those in our special intention basket and...

Please stand for our procession.

Universal Prayer

A. For the Church, that we may console each other as we mourn those who have died, let us pray to the Lord.

B. That hope may overcome fear, so that we may eventually find joy in our memories of the loved ones we have lost, assured that those who have died in Christ are in their eternal home with God, let us pray to the Lord.

C. For all those who bring comfort, understanding, and peace to the bereaved—grief counselors and funeral directors, social workers and parish ministers—that they may be sustained in their vital ministry, let us pray to the Lord.

Solemnity of All Saints

Notes for this Weekend

  • No choir for today

Welcome

Welcome to our Eucharistic Celebration on this Solemnity of All Saints.

Today we honor the saints, all the men and women who have gone before us in faith and whom we believe are eternally in the company of the Lord. The Church has named over ten thousand saints, people whose faith led them to give exemplary witness during their lives, but we believe many more people—some whom we have known—are also in heaven in the Lord’s presence. As we celebrate the Eucharist today, let us honor all those whose lives of witness to the cross of Christ continue to inspire us as we grow as disciples of the Lord.

The intentions of this Mass are for all those in our special intention basket and...

Please stand for our procession.

Universal Prayer

A. For the Church, that we may see God’s face in our sisters and brothers in need and respond to them with love and kindness, longing for the day when we will see the face of God forever, let us pray to the Lord.

B. For leaders of nations, that they may work consistently toward that day when peace and justice will envelop the world and everyone in it in their comforting embrace, let us pray to the Lord.

C. For those who suffer from mental or emotional trauma, for those who have been persecuted physically or psychologically, that they may know God’s mercy in the care and compassion of doctors and counselors, let us pray to the Lord.

D. For all of us, that with God’s grace we may live lives of holiness on our journey to the Cross, providing witness to the gospel to all whom we encounter, let us pray to the Lord.

31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Notes for this Weekend

Welcome

Welcome to our Eucharistic Celebration on this Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time.

In today’s Gospel, Zacchaeus has to climb a tree in order to see Jesus. We likely had it much easier to come here today to encounter our Lord. We don’t have to go up a tree; we experience Jesus’ presence right here and right now in the company of other believers, in the hearing of God’s word, and in the Eucharist itself. At the end of the Gospel, Jesus tells the repentant Zacchaeus that salvation has come to his house. May the Lord’s mercy bring salvation to this house as well.

The intentions of this Mass are for all those in our special intention basket and...

Please stand for our procession.

Universal Prayer

A. For the Church, that we may share Zacchaeus’s enthusiasm for the opportunity to encounter Jesus and may respond with joy as we encounter him in the least of our brothers and sisters, let us pray to the Lord.

B. For those in authority, that they may respect the dignity of life from conception to natural death as they formulate laws and policies and make judgments regarding those laws and policies, let us pray to the Lord.

C. That we may imitate God’s mercy when responding to those who have done wrong, from our loved ones to those serving serious sentences in prison, so that they may have the opportunity to repent and restore their bond with the community, let us pray to the Lord.

D. For those who are not able to be here due to their health or to disabilities, and for those who bring the Eucharist to them, that God may bless them through their encounter, let us pray to the Lord.

E. That we may welcome with open arms those whose curiosity about Jesus and about our faith brings them to this place, let us pray to the Lord.

Fr. Arturo & Fr. Roberto Mass

F. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.

Fr. Kamil’s Mass

F. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, and for (read all intentions from 1st page), let us pray to the Lord.

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Notes for this Weekend

Welcome

Welcome to our Eucharistic Celebration on this Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

We gather together today in the presence of God and neighbor to worship God and to receive the Lord in the Eucharist. In today’s Gospel we hear Jesus tell us that those who exalt themselves will be humbled and that those who humble themselves will be exalted. Our presence here testifies that we are humbled before God, acknowledging that ultimately we are dependent upon God for all that we have and all that we achieve. Let us take this opportunity to thank God for all the blessings we have received.

Universal Prayer

A. For the Church, on World Mission Sunday, that we may always seek to carry on the Lord’s mission, bringing joy to the poor, peace to the troubled, hope to the lowly, and the good news of redemption to all, let us pray to the Lord.

B. For missionaries the world over, that they may be kept safe from harm and the threat of persecution as they follow in the footsteps of the first disciples, let us pray to the Lord.

C. For a bountiful harvest from farms and orchards and vineyards, that the fruit of their fields may feed plenty and that the laborers in their fields may be well rewarded, let us pray to the Lord.

D. For the widowed and the orphaned, that they may be cared for by loved ones and enjoy the companionship of family and friends, let us pray to the Lord.

E. For those who are finishing the race and have kept the faith, that their longing for the Lord’s appearance and the crown of righteousness may be satisfied, let us pray to the Lord.
