Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Notes for this Weekend

Welcome

Welcome to our Eucharistic Celebration on this Second Sunday in Ordinary Time .

We call this period of the liturgical year “Ordinary Time,” but this time after Christmas is not ordinary at all, for it is now that we learn about the first days of Jesus’ public life. In today’s Gospel, John testifies that the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus when John baptized him, meaning that the Holy Spirit joined in Christ’s entire mission. The Holy Spirit descended upon us in our own baptism as well. May we be conscious of that divine presence as we join in Christ’s mission during our own ordinary time.

The intentions of this Mass are for all those in our special intention basket and...

Please stand for our procession.

Universal Prayer

A. For the Church, that by our prophetic words and our conscientious works in service of the gospel, we may give witness to the continuing presence of the Holy Spirit in the world, let us pray to the Lord.

B. For our Church’s missionaries, that like Isaiah, Paul, and John the Baptist, they may testify to the light so that God’s word may be proclaimed to the ends of the earth, let us pray to the Lord.

C. That we may honor the memory of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. by courageously speaking out against injustice and working to bring about justice everywhere, let us pray to the Lord.

D. For all Christians as we approach the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, that we may put into shared practice our love of God and love of neighbor, so that we may find common ground through living out the greatest commandment, let us pray to the Lord.

Fr. Arturo & Fr. Roberto Mass

E. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.

Fr. Kamil’s Mass

E. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, and for (read all intentions from 1st page), let us pray to the Lord.

Announcements

1. The Parish office will be closed this Monday. We will have our daily Masses at 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and confessions.

2. This year’s calendars are available in the Parish office for a donation of $2 each.

3. The Called-to-Renew capital campaign has come to St. Joseph. We are invited to raise $1,170,000. Half of that money will help the neediest parishes and schools pay for costly ministries, programs and physical improvements. The other half will be used to remodel the Parish Hall and kitchen, the Madonna Plaza, and the interior bathrooms of our Church.
